Environment:

Building and maintaining a strong ecosystem on Charleston Lake is one of the Charleston Lake Association's top goals. Over our history we have conducted extensive water testing of the lake and drinking water available to residence.

In more recent years we have suffered a Zebra Mussel infestation. Research is still being done on how this may end up. Hopefully their population will balance out over time and create a stable ecosystem.

Recently both the Township of Athens and the Township of Leeds and the thousand islands have been working on a new town plan that will change building and zoning legislation in the near future. Currently you can find the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands' official plan Here.

Due to older systems and cases of systems not built up to current code we have been working with the townships in an effort to track down and replace sub-par septic systems and stop their effects on the lake due to leaking tanks and insufficient filter beds. If you wish to learn more about the testing, current laws on septic systems or find out what the problems are. Please visit our septic systems page.
